The Cederberg Explore photography expedition is a photographers delight. This four day expedition has fantastic daytime photo opportunities but also perfect night skies for those wishing to learn or do astrophotography. The accommodation is basic but ideal for the location on the banks of the tranquil Matjies River and at the base of some majestic peaks.Travelling from your hotel to the Cederberg and back is done in a new rented luxury transporter.
There are four exceptional rock formation areas to see and photograph. Some can be reached by car (Stadsaal Caves) while the others require some hiking and in the case of the Wolfberg Arch a good 4 hours hiking to reach. The highlight is a sleep over under the stars at either the Wolfberg Arch or Maltese Cross (two hour walk) with the potential to do some serious astrophotography and capture some breathtaking lifetime sunrises and sunsets (Not to mention that leopards still roam around in the area).
The Cederberg Wilderness area is a remote part of South Africa known for its extraordinary rock formations. It is a mountainous area with rivers running through the valleys and is typically very hot and dry in summer and cold and rainy in winter. Some of the areas are privately owned and some are controlled by Cape Nature. All the tours are conducted by John who has covered this area that he loves so much many times.
